Tours for 2020

Old Lane Adventures organises and leads self-drive historic motoring tours for owners/drivers of cars that have a classic or historic appeal.

Our trips are always to places where the roads allow us to enjoy the thrills of driving, without any of the expense or risk of racing or rallying.

We aim to make your trip both memorable and exciting - a true adventure.

Tour - Out of Lockdown Tour to the Austrian Alps
12th - 21st September 2020

It's been a strange year, and so far the old motoring world has been at a complete standstill. Our aim, our hope and our plan is to put an end to that. As we emerge from tight lockdown, there is an increasing chance that we may be able to have one final fling before the autumn progresses too far towards winter. It's time to put all that lockdown maintenance to the test and give our cars a proper chance to turn their wheels again.

The proposed tour leaves the UK on Saturday 12th September, visiting some of our very favourite hotels as we journey together for a fantastic few days in the Austrian Alps and the Dolomites. Our first stop will be at Hotel Le Tulipier, Vienne-le-Chateau, near Reims, and from there we head to the 4* Landhotel Krone on the edge of the Black Forest for our second night. Our first hotel in Austria is the delightful 5* Hotel Arlberg in Lech, followed by three nights near Grobming at the 4* Landhotel Häuserl im Wald. This is the arena for the Ennstal Classic rallies, and we shall enjoy many of the routes in the mountains of Upper Austria and Styria.

Friday 18th September sees us heading towards the Dolomites, stopping for one night at the 5* Grandhotel Lienz on the way. We've chosen some wonderful roads, including the Knockalm Panoramastrasse, which we last visited five years ago on our 'Alps East to West' tour. Our destination on Saturday for two nights is the 4* Hotel de la Poste in Cortina d'Ampezzo, set in the heart of serious Dolomite country. Those who have been in this area with us before will know that we are surrounded by magnificent mountains and brilliant driving roads. And on Monday morning, 21st September, we head for home.

There are a number of options to choose from. If you wish to join us in Austria, meeting the group at Lech, there is a reduced rate for that option. Similarly, if you need to leave the tour early there are similar reductions - please ask for more details. If you'd rather put the car on the train, there is an overnight service from Dusseldorf to Innsbruck, with a return option if you wish. If this is of interest, again, please ask for details.

Our plan depends on a number of factors: if the UK government allows us to travel, if the ferries are running, if the hotels and restaurants are open, if the roads and mountain passes are open, if we don't have to spend 14 days in quarantine when we come home again, if the sun shines..., then we will be there! Not too much to ask. All of our hotels are looking forward to welcoming us, so that's one problem solved.

We have places for just ten cars on this trip, so please don't delay.

If this is a trip you don't want to miss, please download the Tour Information and Booking Form and follow the instructions. Please also read 'About our Historic Motoring Tours' and the 'Additional Conditions' for this tour.

We hope you will be able to join us in September.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the following two tours which were planned for 2020 are now postponed and will take place on these dates in 2021 :-

Prices are based on two people per car sharing a twin or double room. Each car receives a full supporting rally pack, including route book, rally plate and finishers' awards.
